Uniform Commercial Code (UCC)
What is the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC)?
A set of rules and laws that governs commercial transactions in the United States. The code is made up of nine articles covering different aspects of commerce, trade, business, banking and loans for interstate purchases. It governs issues related to service contracts, documents of title and bills of lading, letters of credit, and more.
The UCC is not a federal law, and so states can technically choose whether or not to adopt it. Despite this, every state has adopted the code or parts of it, though some have modified portions to suit their local needs.
To determine the UCC’s requirements in a particular state and its impact on you or your shipments, consult an attorney.
