Finding Surcharges
Extended Area Surcharge
Providing service to and from less populated or accessible domestic and international areas carries higher operating costs. The extended and remote area surcharges are assessed to more accurately reflect the cost of providing service to these areas.
Fuel Surcharge
Applies to transportation charges for select UPS services and accessorial charges.
Surge Emergency Fees
Surge emergency fees may be implemented based on regular assessments of shipping volume, available capacity and other considerations at UPS’ discretion.

Effective May 1, 2026, UPS will be revising the rates for the Pre-Release Notification (PRN) Surcharge.
In addition, from May 1, 2026 onwards, the PRN surcharge will apply not only when a shipper or consignee requests a pre-release notification, but also when the UPS Brokerage team must proactively contact the consignee to obtain missing or incomplete information required for customs clearance. An additional fee of RMB 179 will be billed per shipment to the importer, or to the shipper when the shipper is selected as the payer of the duties and taxes.
We strongly encourage all shippers to ensure that all shipment information and documentation are complete and accurate, in line with customs requirements, at the point of shipment creation.
